The eh List Author Series presents Gary Barwin and Lynne Kutsukake as the New Faces of Fiction. Debut novels by these rising literary stars dazzle readers with tales of poignant sparks of resilience, compelling examination of mortality, and how love transcends across borders and cultures. A compelling examination of mortality, memory, identity and persecution, Yiddish for Pirates (Barwin) is filled with Jewish takes on classic pirate tales; fights, prison, escapes, and exploits on the high seas, Moishe, a boy who leaves home to join a ship?s crew and befriends Aaron, the polyglot parrot.

The Translation of Love (Kutsukake) awes readers with rich, interlocking storylines set to a post-war Tokyo. Aya Shimamura, a newly repatriated Japanese-Canadian girl who must help a classmate find her missing sister, shows the reader how the poignant spark of resilience, friendship and love transcends cultures and borders to stunning effect.
